October is nearly over already and the Busy Bees have continued to work really hard and produce some amazing work!
This month our unit of inquiry took us around the school looking at the Honey Bees, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 classes. We decided which classes were our favourites and thought about what things we could change about our own classroom to make it better. Two things everyone agreed on were having giant letters on display and lots more reading books in our carpet area. We have also been thinking about our actions in the classroom and deciding which things make us happy and sad- our Busy Bee Class Agreements have now been written and will be in the Busy Bee class for the rest of the school year.
The Busy Bees have continued to practise their numbers from 1-10. We also learnt a fantastic pirate song which has helped with our counting-see below for the words. For our unit of inquiry we also produced a class pictogram to record our favourite classes in the school.
We have just finished revising Set 2 of the Jolly Phonics sounds: ‘c’ (curly c) ‘k’ (kicking k) ‘e’ ‘h’ ‘r’ ‘m’ ‘d’. The Busy Bees are fast becoming phonics stars and have been practising all the letter sounds they have learnt this year by singing the Jolly Phonics songs and taking part in lots of phonics games and activities.
This month the Busy Bees have been focusing on appreciation and respect by remembering to say ’thank you’ at snack time when we are given a piece of fruit. We are pleased to announce that now every Busy Bee has reached an attitude star-we are a very polite class!!
Songs
The Busy Bees have learnt a number pirate song to help with our counting skills to 10.
When I was one I ate a bun,
The day I went to sea.
I jumped aboard a pirate ship
And the captain said to me:
“We’re going this way, that way, forwards and backwards
Over the Irish Sea.
A bottle of fun (!) to fill my tum
And that’s the life for me!”
When I was two I buckled my shoe…..
When I was three I hurt my knee….
When I was four I opened the door…
When I was five I learnt to dive….
When I was six I did some tricks….
When I was seven I went to Devon…..
When I was eight I stayed up late…..
When I was nine I was on time…..
When I was ten I had a hen…….
The words for each number can be changed as long as everything rhymes!
If you would like to know the tune to this song please ask Miss Harding.
