The Art Biennale

On Wednesday 16th November, Year 3 went in to Venice.  As part of our inquiry into Expression we took part in a workshop at the Art Biennale.

We started by meeting our guide, Marta, who spoke very good English!  She talked about the title of the exhibition, ‘Illuminations’, as ideas and moments of creativity, and that we would have the chance to visit many different countries in a very short time!

First, we went to Japan.  Marta told us a story about a frog in a well, and what he could see from bottom of the well; how the world would seem upside-down.  We then went into the pavilion, and saw some strange but amazing projections!

Next, we travelled to Israel.  We could almost hear and feel the water running through the pipes.  We found out about the Dead Sea, and all the salt inside it, and we saw what happens when you leave an object in for a long time.  It had produced some interesting shapes!

Finally, we returned to Venice, where the sea had been turned ‘vertical’!  We could see, hear and even feel the water running, but it was not acting normally…

After each pavilion, we drew some ideas onto a triangular piece of card.  At the end, we stuck some pieces  of coloured paper, plastic and aluminium onto our card, and Marta put them together to make a large box.  When you look into the hole, all the colours of the water reflect and shine to make a beautiful piece of art.

The children were so well-behaved on the trip, and enjoyed it thoroughly.  Thank you again to all the parents who came to help.

Remeber, next Friday, 25th November, is our assembly, where we will be presenting all that we have done in this unit.  Please come and watch!
